6 Tips for Spring Cleaning Your Home

Tuesday, April 18, 2017

Spring in Iowa can go from the brightest, sunniest weather one day to dark and stormy the next. The next time you're stuck inside on gloomy day, make the most of it by tackling a few spring cleaning projects. That way, you can enjoy the next nice day without any guilt! Here are 6 ways to get started.

1. Put Away Any Lingering Holiday Decor

You probably took down most of your decorations months ago, but did you leave behind one Snowman pillow? Is there a last Santa figurine in the corner? Make a sweep of your entire home and put away any last bits of holiday decorations you find.

2. Tackle Your Closets

Nothing feels less like spring than opening up your closet in the morning and seeing nothing but heavy sweaters. Storage containers that fit under your bed or vaccum sealed bags are good ways to get everyting compact so you can get it out of the way until you need it again.

3. Air Out Your Bedding

If you have heavy quilts and blankets that have been sitting all winter but don't need to be washed, hang them outside to air for a day.

4. Freshen Up Your Drapes

Drapes can be dust magnets, so spring is the perfect time to freshen them up. Put them in the dryer with a damp towel to make them look new.

5. Scrub Your Refrigerator

The refrigerator is a place that everyone touches, so make sure to clean it inside and out. Take out removable drawers and clean them in hot, soapy water. Then, wipe down the rest of the refrigerator.

6. Clean Your Dishwasher

Just because your dishwasher is designed for cleaning doesn't mean you can skip it during spring cleaning. Clean out any bits of food that are left behind, then put a cup of white vinegar in a dishwasher safe cup, place it on the top rack, and run it.
